Hawaiian Island Twisters offers Competitive Women's and Men's Artistic Gymnastics Programs.  Our boys' team competes USAG levels 3 through 10 and our girls' team competes USAG levels 3 through 10 and Xcel.

The Women’s Development Program (WDP) was created with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace. 

​

The USA Gymnastics Xcel program was developed as an alternative competitive program offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts. The goal of Xcel is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience. The program allows a wide choice in skills to meet requirements so selection may be based on an individual athlete’s strengths.

TOPS (Talent Opportunity Program), is a talent search and educational program for female gymnasts ages 8-10 and their coaches. From September to November of each year, gymnasts ages 8-10 are evaluated virtually by zoom on physical abilities. From there, athletes may participate in skills testing that will take place at competitions across the country. Each state will have the opportunity to host a TOPS qualifier at an invitational competition in their state. Based on those results, gymnasts are then invited to participate in the National TOPS Testing in June or July each year, followed by TOPS Training Camp which takes place in July or August of each year.

The Men’s Development Program provides training and competitive opportunities for Levels 3-10 (ages 5-18). The program encourages participation, promote growth, and provide opportunity for the athlete to be successful and continue to progress.

Our competitive coaches share years of experience and a wealth of knowledge setting the standard in the country. Continual training and education of our coaches are pivotal in the continued growth and development of our athletes.

2024 Girls Level 3 Team Tryouts:

Date - TBD

Formal team selection is conducted through an open tryout led by our team staff in December. Any interested female student who will turn 6 years old by the end of September 2025 and is currently enrolled at HITS is eligible to sign up for the tryout.

2024 Boys Level 3 Team Tryouts:

Saturday, April 13, 2024 @ 4:00pm-6:00pm

Formal team selection is conducted through an open tryout lead by our team staff in April. To be eligible, boys must be enrolled at HITS and be at least 5 years old.

Selection - With only a limited number of spots available each year and a huge pool of interested and talented children vying for a spot, HITS looks at all aspects of the child's participation in the sport.  While natural talent and skill play a vital role in selection, HITS staff also considers the child's level of commitment to the sport, work ethic, their ability to self-motivate, and coachability.  Finally, the child's ability to manage the demands of a competitive schedule also play a role in the selection process.

Results - All students who participate in our team tryouts will receive a results notification through email. If your athlete is accepted to be on our competitive team, you will need to turn in the signed letter to accept or decline.
